Dear Gaveliers,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to the ICC Eves Gavel Club term for 2019-2020. I hope that all of you are ready to jump into speeches and role players. We look forward to welcoming you to another amazing year of inspiring speeches, humorous moments, creative meeting themes, interesting educational modules and delicious snacks!

My name is Asha Shiju and I’ll be your primary counselor for this term and I will be working with an additional group of dynamic vibrant counselors who have volunteered to help me during this term. At this time, the ICC Eves Gavel team of counselors include Lesiley Mathew, Shanty Rose, Sonali Ghoshand Prathibha Ramesh.

This year, we have decided to enhance the gavel club experience by adding on a couple of new programs and awards. That includes the following four aspects:

1. The Competent Leadership Manual (CL Manual) – in addition to working on your Competent Communicator Manual (CC Manual) that includes completing 10 speeches, you also need to work on the CL Manual projects. The Competent Leadership manual consists of 10 projects and in each project, the objective is to complete 2, 3 or 4 roles in the club meeting such as the ah counter, Toastmaster of the Day, Table Topics Master and many such roles that you already take up today!

2. Awards for the club members – We would like to recognize those Gaveliers who have really put an effort to complete their speeches and taken up roles at every meeting to support the club. So, we have put together a list of awards – Gavelier of the Year award for a Gavelier who’s an all-rounder in speeches and role- plays, Golden Education Award for the Gavelier who completes the most number of quality speeches, Golden Leadership Award for the Gavelier who performs the most number of role-plays, Golden Attendance Award for the Gavelier who attends the meetings most frequently!

3. Extensive focus on the Excom role – Special excom meetings will be conducted to enhance the leadership and team skills for excom. We will be setting goals for excom members this year and in the process, we will teach them skills such as using software such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel, using software tools to create flyers, newsletters and website, and enhancing their skills in planning and public speaking. We intend to help each of the excom members become a confident contributor towards the club goals. It includes an award for the Best Excom Member of the Year, the Gavelier, with best attendance, who has done a great job of fulfilling their roles and responsibilities and achieved the goal and target for that year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at ashashiju@gmail.com or contact me by phone at  55164150 I look forward to helping all of you become better communicators and leaders during this term
